Why Areco and Wapiti belong together

If you see both Areco and Wapiti on a sock, they are not two competing product types. Areco describes an accessory range for sports and everyday use; functional socks fall under the name Wapiti. What this means for your selection is: the brand name helps with orientation, then the specific sock design counts. Size, shaft height and padding determine how the pair connects with your ski boot. A suitable sock should fit where the foot is already guided by the boot.

Choosing children's ski socks according to actual foot size

With children, it's tempting to choose a sock with as much room to grow as possible. However, superfluous material in a ski boot is not helpful. If the heel is not in the intended position or the toe area is too long, the material can bunch up when putting on the sock. Therefore, start with the current foot size and the designated size range of the pair. The correct room to grow is created within a suitable design, not by arbitrarily larger socks. Padding is a matter of space

A more heavily padded sock adds more material between the foot and the boot in the corresponding areas. This can be comfortable if the combination allows for it. A ski boot that already fits snugly, however, does not automatically need the most voluminous version. Therefore, look at where the sock is padded and how these areas overlap with the boot. The shin, heel and forefoot represent different contact zones. The decisive factor is a smooth, shared fit, not the idea that more thickness is always better.

If two socks appear different when compared, first look at them on the foot and then in the boot. A soft feel in the hand says little about how much space a material takes up under a closed ski boot. For a cross-brand comparison, the ski socks category will lead you to other designs. Stick to the same foot size and a comparable use. This way, you compare padding and material without unknowingly changing the fit basis at the same time.

Material, length and other clothing

The material composition helps you assess what care a pair needs and what fabric feel you prefer. Individual fibres can be processed in different proportions; therefore, it is worth looking at the complete composition. The same brand does not have to use the same mix for every sock. For practical selection, the shaft height is also important. It should fit the tall boot and be able to connect with the undergarments without unnecessary layers of fabric. A bunched-up trouser leg does not belong in the same tight contact zone.

Plan the fitting with the clothes the child will actually wear later. In particular, the transition between underwear and sock should remain clear. Wrinkles or thick overlaps are easier to spot before the boot is closed. If new children's ski boots are also being considered, the intended socks should be included from the start. A boot that was judged with a thin everyday pair can feel significantly different with different padding. Both parts are therefore selected together.

Care and preparation for the next ski day

After wearing, socks should be cleaned and completely dried according to their care label. Do not automatically treat different materials with the same temperature or drying method. A second suitable pair can facilitate changing without having to wear two socks at the same time. When folding, check whether the heel, cuff and fabric surfaces have retained their shape. The clear assignment of several pairs also makes it easier for children to prepare their clothes independently before the next use. The selection of an Areco or Wapiti pair therefore does not end with the motif: size, well-fitting design and appropriate care make it a well-thought-out component of children's equipment.
